WHAT IS CYBER BULLYING?  

Cyber Bullying is repeatedly misusing the Internet or other digital communication devices to be cruel or to harass others by sending or posting hurtful material.

Cyber Bullying takes many forms:

  • Threatening emails
  • Hurtful instant messaging 
  • Repeated messages sent to cell phones
  • Websites set up to mock or embarrass others
  • Using the victim’s user name and posting false info
  • Forwarding private messages, pictures, or video for others to view

How common is cyber bullying? 
Cyber bullying Study – 1,500  12 to 15  year olds participated

  •  34% of respondents say they have been bullied online
  •  13% were threatened
  • 5% were scared for their safety 
  • 17% have bullied others online 
  •    56% were bullied in a chat room 
  •   49% were bullied using computer text message
  •   28% were bullied by email
  • 34% felt frustrated 
  •   30% felt angry 
  •  22% felt sad
  • 24% of victims were negatively affected at home 
  • 18% of victims were negatively affected at school 
  • Over 42% of victims did not tell anyone about the incident
  • Only 11% of those who were bullied told a parent
